Tonny Makumbi

Our Founder

Founder, St. Anne Elderly Nutrition & Mbogo Luganda Academy Tonny Makumbi is a community advocate, caregiver, and cultural steward whose life and work are deeply rooted in service, faith, and compassion. His commitment to honoring elders and preserving cultural heritage was shaped early in life while growing up in Uganda under the loving guidance of his grandmother.

His grandmother was more than a caregiver—she was the heart of the community. Her home was a place of wel- come, generosity, and quiet leadership, where neighbors in need were always received with dignity. From hor, Tonny learned that caring for elders is not an obligation, but a sacred responsibility and one of life's highest honors. Tonny extends heartfelt gratitude to his parents for lovingly caring for his grandmother, now nearly 100 years old, and for their daily dedication to her physical and mental well-being, especially ensuring she receives healthy, nutritious meals.

Professionally, Tonny has worked closely with elderly individuals, supporting them in accessing essential services that help them remain safe, healthy, and independent. Through this work, he developed deep, trusting relationships with older adults and gained firsthand insight into the realities they face, including food insecurity, limited access to pre- ventive care, transportation barriers, and social isolation.

These lived and professional experiences inspired Tonny to establish St. Anne Elderly Nutrition in Mwera Village, Mityana District, Uganda. The initiative was created to address the quiet crisis of hunger and neglect among elders—restoring dignity through nutritious food, wellness education, and compassionate community support. For Tonny, each meal represents more than nourishment; it is a message that elders are seen, valued, and cherished.

Alongside his commitment to elderly care, Tonny holds a deep love for the Luganda language and cultural heritage. Together with his wife, he intentionally passed on their native language and values to their children. Recognizing that many families in the Ugandan diaspora lack structured opportunities to do the same, he founded Mbogo Luganda Academy in 2025.

The Academy was created to help children connect with their roots, learn the Luganda language, and embrace the values, stories, and wisdom of their ancestors. Tonny believes that language is the heartbeat of culture and that el- ders play a vital role as teachers and custodians of heritage.

Through both initiatives, Tonny advances a unified vision: that healthy aging and cultural continuity are inseparable. By nourishing elders and empowering them as cultural bearers, he seeks to strengthen families, bridge generations, and build communities grounded in dignity, identity, and belonging.

Tonny continues to lead with humility, integrity, and faith, guided by the enduring values of love and compassion—honoring tho past whilo nurturing hope for generations to come.
